Prairie Roots
Community Land Trust
The citywide Prairie Roots Community Land Trust (CLT) - launched in 2022 - will preserve investments and create permanent affordable housing across Lincoln.
In a CLT, a buyer purchases their home, but leases the land underneath the property from the CLT. Upon purchase, the resident agrees to a series of requirements that govern the resale of the property to another buyer in the same economic situation of the original buyer. The home owner benefits from the equity and appreciation of the home and the community benefits from the home being sold to another low- or middle-income buyer. The CLT leverages a shared equity model to ensure that affordable homes stay affordable.
