Housing Advocacy
While there are a number of neighborhood associations across the city, these associations are not always representative of the residents in their neighborhoods. This is especially true for neighborhoods with a high concentration of rental housing since many neighborhood associations are almost exclusively homeowners. A number of residents wanted to collaborate with other residents outside of established neighborhood associations, which prompted NeighborWorks Lincoln and Collective Impact Lincoln to establish the Lincoln Housing Advocates group. Working together, an email listserv was created to encourage information sharing among diverse housing advocates. The growing effort has also had early success in gathering, including monthly potlucks and advocacy dialogues. These events continue to increase in attendance and bring in new advocates that include renters, community builders, rental voucher recipients, landlords, homeowners, and community providers.
