Block Party Guide

Need guidance in planning a neighborhood event? NeighborWorks Lincoln is here to help!

What type of event are you planning?

  • Private Party: Event will be on private property (like your house/yard). No additional permits are needed.
  • Street Closure:  Event will impact public right-of-way (from sidewalk to sidewalk). The street will be closed and the right-of-way will in some way potentially be impacted. You will need to obtain a Block Party Permit from the City of Lincoln. This will take a few weeks, so be sure to make that request at least four weeks ahead of time.
  • Public Park: Event will impact a public park. You will need permission from the Parks and Recreation Department.

NOTE: Events with vendors, very large attendance, live performances, or exceeding the normal capacity of a park reservation, may be required to get a Special Event Permit (see below). The permitting process is different for parks and other public spaces, so plan ahead.

Still not sure what kind of permits you might need? Give one of our community builders a call at 402-477-7181 and we can point you in the right direction.
