Lincoln’s older neighborhoods face numerous challenges as they age and newer communities are built. Problems range from crumbling sidewalks to declining housing stock. The complexity of these challenges require not only input from residents but also support from the community at large as solutions are a mixture of regulations, laws and enforcement policies. The Lincoln Policy Network (LPN) examines issues that are causing problems in neighborhoods or limiting the implementation of an effective solution.
LPN is comprised of neighborhood residents from all of the Heart of Lincoln neighborhoods, business interests, landlords, and representatives from the City that have an interest in finding solutions. The goal of LPN is to identify problems, formulate solutions, and implement plans to change the roadblocks that are at either a City, County or State level through new legislation or the modification of an existing law or ordinance.
The Plan for Action was developed by LPN outlining common concerns. LPN uses the Plan for Action as a foundation for pursuing concerns and creating common goals.
Currently, the Plan for Action has been endorsed by 27 neighborhood associations. Each neighborhood association has stated their intent to work with other neighborhood associations to pursue common goals while reserving the right to determine the appropriate level of support and participation in any particular joint effort.
