How we develop neighborhoods
One of the ways NeighborWorks Lincoln improves our community is through real estate development.
This may include purchasing properties in need of renovation where we either update the home or demolish the home and rebuild a new one.
Additionally, we may purchase a tract of land and develop it into affordable housing for several families. For example, in 2010, the Near South Neighborhood Association presented one of our properties with their Presidents Award for Best Improvement.
Affordable real estate development leads to:
- Quality, owner-occupied homes
- Successful neighborhoods
- Safe, viable community
- Decreased crime
- Increase property values
The homes that NWL purchase for redevelopment aren’t economically feasible for the private market to invest in.
The homes usually have a history of high calls for service, including calls for mental health services, reports of drug activity and repeated violations of Lincoln housing or health codes
Affordable real estate development isn’t about just that one house, it’s about creating a better community.
