The photographs below are from the NeighborWorks Home and Garden Tour featuring the Malone and Hawley Neighborhoods held June, 2012 as part of “National NeighborWorks Week”. Nine Historic Properties were open to the general public for tours. The owners hosted their homes and answered questions about the backgrounds of each. The tour was very well attended. Several rain barrels decorated by local artists and young people were raffled. The event was a fund raiser for NeighborWorks Lincoln.
National NeighborWorks Week is a celebration of the accomplishments of the NeighborWorks network and an opportunity to increase visibility and build community partnerships. NeighborWorks Week is held during the first week of June each year.
During NeighborWorks Week, local NeighborWorks organizations mobilize tens of thousands of volunteers, businesspeople, neighbors, friends and local and national elected and civic leaders in a week of neighborhood change and awareness. They rehab and repair homes, paint and landscape properties, conduct neighborhood tours, recognize successful partnerships, and host events that educate, train and inform. Thousands of families benefit from the week’s activities nationwide.
NeighborWorks Lincoln staff members are continuously producing neighborhood beautification projects. Community volunteers are currently being recruited and always welcome! Please refer to the Volunteer Application if you or your group would like to apply!
Past projects have included litter clean ups, graffiti clean ups, landscaping/mulching projects, community mural projects, block parties, and problem property potlucks. Projects have been completed in the Malone/Hawley, Everett, Near South, Hartley and Clinton Neighborhoods. Plans are quickly approaching to spread efforts in the University Place, Bethany and Havelock Neighbhoods as well.
