CLI
NeighborWorks® Lincoln sponsors a group of neighborhood residents and community representatives once a year to attend the NeighborWorks America Community Leadership Institute (CLI). The training event aims to strengthen the voices and skills of community, resident and volunteer leaders. Participants attend in teams from areas served by NeighborWorks Network organizations. Neighborhood ‘people’ come from all over the United States and have the opportunity to learn not only from the trainers, but also from other residents. There is a wealth of experience at these trainings.
At the end of this event, each participating team creates an action plan to effectively bring the knowledge they’ve gained at the CLI back to their communities and use it to effect sustainable positive change in their community. A grant of $2,000 is awarded to the group to support the implementation of their action plan.
Neighborhoods who have participated in the CLI include Clinton, Malone/Hawley, University Place, Woods Park, Everett and Near South Neighborhoods. Past trainings have been held in Kansas City, MO, Louisville, KY, Milwaukee, WI, San Jose, CA and Nashville, TN.
Projects have included a series of the development of a farmer’s market, block parties, an annual family bike race event (“Biketacular”), community satisfaction survey, problem property potluck event, rain barrel workshop series, two street art projects and a plant sale.
