The properties, which are selectively chosen for their strategic value in the neighborhood, have a positive effect on the neighborhoods once rehab is completed.
The pictured property was purchased from the owner in late summer of 2005 with the intent to remove the existing structure and replace it with a new, single family residence that is compatible with the neighborhood.
The vacated property was also made available to the Lincoln Fire Department, who used the home for an evacuation training drill. Notice the boarded up areas where firemen cut holes to help evacuate residents during a fire.
The Troubled Property Program began in 1997. Since then, approximately 20 properties have been turned into single-family homes for first time homebuyers.
