History

NeighborWorks® Lincoln was established in Lincoln in 1986 as Neighborhood Housing Services and spent its early years defining its scope and programs. By 1993, the organization began to flourish and focused its work on a few targeted inner city neighborhoods.

In 1994, the organization became a chartered member of the NeighborWorks® network, gaining access to financial resources, tools, training opportunities, and the experience of hundreds of colleagues around the country.

In 1996, the organization moved to 2121 N. 27th and was renamed Neighborhoods, Inc.

Throughout its years of service to Lincoln, the organization has been a leader in community development. It was among the first organizations in the nation to establish a homebuilding program for high school students, the first nonprofit organization in Nebraska to offer homebuyer education, and the first Nebraska organization to become a member of the national NeighborWorks® Network.

In 2005, the organization became one of the first eight national NeighborWorks® affiliates approved to change its public name to fully reflect the NeighborWorks® brand. On June 9, 2005, the organization began doing business as NeighborWorks® Lincoln.

NeighborWorks® Lincoln has since moved to our current location at 2240 Q Street.
